Teifi valley writer Jackie Biggs will launch her latest collection of poems, Breakfast in Bed, at the Cardigan's Castle Café Cellar Bar on Wednesday, October 16.

In the last few years former Western Telegraph and Tivyside reporter Jackie has had her poetry published in a range of publications and anthologies and has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize.

This year she was highly commended in the Wales International Poetry Competition and the RS Thomas Festival Poetry Competition. Her debut collection The Spaces in Between, was published in September 2015.

Originally from Hertfordshire, Jackie lived and worked in London until she moved to west Wales in 1986. After a successful career as a news she left her full time job and started writing poetry in 2012.

As well as publishing in print and online, Jackie has performed her poetry at spoken word venues in Wales, England and Ireland. She is a member of The Rockhoppers (Coast to Coast Poets) performance group and actively supports other writers as co-organiser of the Cellar Bards spoken word event in Cardigan. She is a former chair of PENfro Book Festival.

International award-winning writers have praised Breakfast in Bed. Maggie Harris wrote: "These are poems for our times, when it is the small things that matter, and love above all."

Kaite O'Reilly also endorsed the book as: "Precise and elegiac, these poems distil memories with an acute luminosity. Like a fly caught in amber, Jackie Biggs captures the chance moment or fleeting reflection in luscious colour and detail, resulting in a quiet but effective provocation of the senses."

The book has been recently released by Indigo Dreams Publishing, for more information see their website. The launch event runs from 7.30 to 9pm. All are welcome.
