PLANS are in the pipeline for a £1.65m building project at Cardigan Primary School which will see two new classrooms added, along with extra office space and other facilities.

An application is currently being considered by Ceredigion planning officials, which if approved, would see the work begin later this year and allow an extra 30 pupils to be accommodated at the school at Napier Street.

The plans show the erection of a single storey extension to provide a new main entrance and allow for administration office space.

There will be a single storey extension to provide two new classrooms, staff support areas and a link between the existing single storey infant and junior sections of the school.

There will also be a two-storey extension to the rear of the two-storey junior building to provide an additional fire exit and WC facilities.

A spokesman for Ceredigion County Council said: “The estimated cost of the project is £1.65m which is being funded by both the Welsh Government and Ceredigion County Council.

“Work will hopefully commence before Christmas and upon completion, it will increase pupil capacity by approximately 30.”

The proposals have the backing of Cardigan Town Council.
