VANDALS who keep interfering with the lifebelt on Cardigan quay are risking people’s lives.
That was the message from Cllr Catrin Miles at a meeting of the town council where she highlighted her concerns that the lifebelt on the pontoon at Prince Charles Quay kept disappearing.
“People are messing with the lifebelt and very often it is taken down and thrown in the river,” she said.
“The latest problem is that the whole unit on which the belt hangs has now been knocked down. This is so serious as the quayside and river are so busy and the lifebelt has to be there if needed.
“There is CCTV at the Grosvenor and I have flagged this up with the police, who will be keeping a special eye on the area.”
Cllr Clive Davies wondered if it would be possible to fix some kind of sensor on the lifebelt which could alert the police if it was activated.
He added: “Additional CCTV is being installed in the area which will detect who is going down there and also has night vision capability.”
