NEW Quay lifeboat crew members had a busy time yesterday, August 24, with four callouts in just over three hours.

A spokesman for New Quay lifeboat station said: “The all-weather lifeboat paged at 1.10pm to a 26ft boat, broken down between New Quay and Aberaeron.

“They had put an anchor down, but it was fouled on lobster pots.

“We put a crew member on board to assist and then towed them to New Quay.”

Just as the yacht was being assisted, another callout was received.

“The inshore lifeboat was launched to assist mooring the casualty vessel but was diverted to Llangrannog at 2.34pm to assist with an unresponsive casualty who was not breathing.”

Just minutes after, the all-weather lifeboat was tasked to a broken down boat at Castell Bach between New Quay and Cwmtydu.

“Again they had put an anchor down but it had snagged on lobster pots, so we put a crewmember on board to assist and towed the boat to New Quay.

“Shortly after returning to New Quay the all-weather lifeboat was paged again at 4.22pm to a 30ft boat broken down, three miles off Llanon.

“We towed the boat to Aberystwyth and handed the tow over to Aberystwyth lifeboat just outside the harbour.

“The lifeboat returned to New Quay and was rehoused and refuelled by 8:30pm.”
