BOTH New Quay’s lifeboats were launched at 6.45pm last night, August 20, to the aid of three persons cut off by the tide.

The lifeboats, along with Aberystwyth lifeboat and Coastguard rescue teams from New Quay and Aberystwyth, attended near Morfa Bychan, between Aberystwyth and Llanrhystud.

Posting on Facebook, New Quay Lifeboat station wrote: “A crew member from Aberystwyth went ashore to assess the situation and, due to the difficult location and weather conditions, decided that helicopter extraction was required.

“New Quay inshore lifeboat [ILB] veered down and managed to get alongside the rocky ledge. The casualties were extracted by Rescue 936 from Caernarfon, and the Aberystwyth crewman was taken aboard the ILB and transferred back to Aberystwyth lifeboat.

“After a very bumpy and uncomfortable trip back to New Quay for the ILB, sheltering in the wake of the all-weather lifeboat, both lifeboats were recovered and rehoused by 9.30pm."
