NEW Quay’s all-weather lifeboat was today (Thursday July 11) launched to carry out a search for a possible fishing vessel in trouble.

The station was paged at 9.07am by Milford Coastguard to an emergency radio beacon on a fishing vessel but stood down as the Coastguard had spoken to a fishing vessel in the correct location.

However, as the Coastguard continued to receive distress signals and believed that there may be a second EPIRB activated, a Mayday was called as the Coastguard wanted to confirm there was no other vessel in distress so Mersey-class lifeboat was launched at 9.32am to search the area in question.

The lifeboat was tasked to search the area between Aberporth and New Quay but found no other fishing vessels in distress or persons in the water.
