RESIDENTS in a small village near Llandysul campaigning to have a post box installed have received the backing of their local MP.

Carmarthen East and Dinefwr MP Jonathan Edwards has written to the Royal Mail to request a site meeting on behalf of the residents of Trewern, Saron.

In March, Mr Edwards wrote to the Royal Mail to ask for assistance on behalf of the residents with the provision of a post box. Existing post boxes are many hundreds of meters away, with some residents being unable to walk the long distances required to post letters.

Despite this, the Royal Mail has responded that "the area is already well served by post boxes" and has no plans to provide a post box in Trewern.

During a visit with local residents and county councillor, Ken Howells, Mr Edwards said:

"Local residents feel extremely strongly about the installation of a post box in the Trewern area not least because it would serve an estate of elderly people consisting of over 60 dwellings.

"I have written again to the Royal Mail to request a site meeting in order for the local community to discuss their concerns."

Cllr Ken Howells added: "The existing post boxes are located too far from the residents at Trewern. If Royal Mail will not relocate one of the existing boxes, then they should install a new one at Trewern."
