THE saga to remove trees from the River Teifi at Cardigan bridge continues to rumble on.

“It is just going from bad to worse,” Cllr Catrin Miles told a meeting of Cardigan Town Council.

“The branches have been cut off the trunks and people are simply not going to see them just below the water. They pose more of a danger now and more have since come down the river and its getting to the point where boats are having difficulties.

“More shale and other debris has also been deposited and with the holiday season here and more people using the river, I am very worried there will be an accident.

“The county council tell me it has been done and the trees removed but they have not. If someone takes a photo at high tide you will not see them. It needs sorting as a matter of urgency.

Ceredigion County Council has had emails from myself, the town clerk and Teifi Fairways – it is their responsibility.”

Cllr Yvonne O’Neill added: “It is getting bad. There are more canoes and kayaks on the river and if people go into the trees they will get trapped and we are talking fatalities.”
