A CARDIGAN man who tried to settle a dispute by waving a knife around has been jailed for 12 months.

Paul Tomkinson, aged 27, admitted possessing a knife in a public place, outside his flat in High Street.

Swansea crown court heard how several people, including Tomkinson, had been drinking at his home on May 10.

Sian Cutter, prosecuting, said Sabrina Jenkins left and became involved in a scuffle with another woman.

Tomkinson emerged and pushed Miss Jenkins up against a wall and produced a knife with a three inch blade.

Judge Peter Heywood told him: "You separated the women but what you did then was completely unacceptable.

"If you had caught her with that knife the consequences could have been horrendous," he added.
