ROADWORKS around Newcastle Emlyn School have been traffic causing chaos.
Drivers have been reporting delays of up to half an hour as work is carried out by Carmarthenshire County Council.
The work had been scheduled to finish during the half term holiday in a bid to lessen the impact and also to avoid disruption to pupils taking exams.
Highways officials now hope to complete the majority of the work by the end of this week.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s head of transport, Stephen Piliner, said: “The works are designed to improve road safety and pedestrian access around Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn, the leisure centre and Newcastle Emlyn town centre.
“In order to ensure safety while the construction works are on-going it is necessary to have temporary traffic signals in place but we anticipate that the works should be substantially complete this week.”
