Brynberian

THE death occurred of Professor Christopher Day, of Brynberian, on April 13. He was aged 76.

Professor Day was born in Portsmouth and, after teaching at Polytechnic of Central London from 1968 to 1972, embarked on a 47-year career as a pioneer of environmentally conscious architecture, designing such notable local buildings as Ffald-y-Brenin and Nant-y-Cwm Steiner school.

He authored a number of books during his career, including Places of the Soul and Consensus Design.

He was awarded an MBE for Services to Architecture and Innovation in 2016.

He leaves to mourn his wife, four sons, three daughters, a stepson and a stepdaughter.

The funeral was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth, on May 3, followed by a celebration of his life at Nevern Memorial Hall

The funeral director was Stephen Reeves.

Mrs J Scott

Pembroke Dock

Joan Scott, of Cross Park, Pennar, Pembroke Dock, died peacefully at home on March 15, 2019. She was aged 82.

A native of Pembroke Dock, Joan worked in the advertising department of the Western Telegraph offices in Meyrick Street, Pembroke Dock, for 35 happy years.

She was married to the late Vernon Scott; Pembroke Dock historian and Western Telegraph journalist.

Joan was an animal lover and owned dogs all her life. She spent many happy hours walking them on the Barrack Hill near to her home. Joan loved her family and was never happier when everybody gathered for special occasions.

Left to mourn are daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Rowland; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Leigh; grandchildren, Christopher, Carl, Rachel, Scott, Samara, Tom, Joe and James as well as great-granddaughter Sophia.

The funeral service was held at St John`s Church, Pembroke Dock on Thursday, March 28, and was led by Revd Alex Grace.

The bearers were Christopher, Carl, Scott, Tom, Joe and James; Joan’s grandsons

Mrs P Morgan

Kilgetty

Mrs Peggy Morgan of Oaktree Court, Oakfield Drive, Kilgetty died at 90 years old on March 17.

A native of Jeffreyston, Peggy was brought up at The Crown, Jeffreyston and attended Cresselly School.

She soon showed a great aptitude for music and playing the piano, a talent she was to become well known and appreciated for, for the rest of her life.

Peggy passed all of her piano exams, gaining the qualifications ALCM, TD, LLCM, she taught an extremely large number of pupils throughout the locality.

In 1953, Peggy married George Morgan, the true love of her life.

They had two children, Jill and Kevin.

In 1966, the family moved to Templeton.

Peggy was the first organist at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth where she worked for 29 years.

During this time, Peggy formed Templeton Children`s Choir and later Templeton Ladies Choir alongside conducting choirs in many local churches and chapels.

Peggy became village postmistress in the early 1970s, retiring in 1990.

Peggy and George had two grandchildren, Christopher and Kathryn of whom they were extremely proud.

Following George`s passing in 2005, Peggy remained in Templeton until 2014 when she moved to Oakfield Court in Kilgetty where she was very happy.

The family left to mourn are Jill (daughter), Kevin and Arabella (son and daughter-in-law), Christopher and Kathryn (grandchildren), Marg, ‘second daughter’.

Bearers were Christopher and Kathryn Morgan, John Lewis, Eric Mullins, John Badham, Nigel Price, Mark East and Edward Taylor.

The funeral service was held on Monday, April 1, at Ebenezer Baptist Chapel, Cold Inn followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth.

Both services were conducted by Rev Hywel Brown.

At Cold Inn, a poem was read by Kathryn and a tribute given by Christopher while at Parc Gwyn there were personal reflections by Tegwen Burns and an item “May Each Day” sung by Tenby Male Choir.

Mr A Roach

Hakin

Mr Alan Roach of Hakin passed ay at Rickeston Mill Nursing Home on the February 18, 2019

Alan started his working life at G K Plant as a plant fitter before moving to Esso Petroleum as a truck operator.

He was a stalwart supporter of Hakin Utd for 60 years, and earned numerous playing honours with the club, including the Wiltshire Cup, Pembrokeshire Cup, First Division League and many others before moving into admin roles as secretary, chairman and trustee.

He leaves to mourn is wife Ann, son Alan and daughter-in-law Rose. Edith and Colin (sister and brother-in-law) Irene and Peter (sister and brother-in-law) Charlie and Tomos (grandsons). Also an extended family of many cousins.

The funeral service was held on Tuesday, February 26, at St David’s Church, Hubberston, conducted by the Rev. Andy Bookless.

The bearers were Chris Tansey, Gary Dawes, Brian Hawkins, Davy Reynolds and Kenny Clay.

There were family flowers only with donations in lieu to Withybush CDU Appeal Fund c/o Chris Holmes, 12 Gwili Road, Hakin, Milford Haven.

The funeral was arranged by Tom Newing and Sons Ltd, Hamilton Court Funeral Homes, Dartmouth Street, Milford Haven.

Mr E Raymond

Letterston

Elwyn Raymond of St David’s Road, Letterston, formerly of Skyber Farm passed away peacefully at Withybush Hospital on March 7, 2019, he was 83.

Elwyn was born at Skyber Farm on October 26, 1935 to the late Luther and Edith Raymond, the second of three children.

Elwyn attended Letterston Primary School and at the age of 14 joined his parents, sister and brother working on the family farm.

He was predeceased by his brother Willie in 2005.

In his younger days Elwyn was a keen member of the former Letterston Young Farmers Club where he participated in stock judging and ploughing match competitions where he gained quite some accolade.

In his spare time, Elwyn enjoyed helping neighbouring farms with the yearly harvest.

After some years Elwyn worked on other local farms, one of them being Penfeidr Farm, Castlemorris where he met and married Gertrude Williams but sadly she passed away in 1986 due to ill health.

Elwyn was a faithful member in Saron Chapel and following retirement moved to St David’s Road, Letterston. In recent years he lived closer to his sister.

Elwyn will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

The funeral was held at Saron Baptist Chapel, Letterston on March 14, 2019 with interment at Saron Cemetery where he was laid to rest next to his parents. The service was officiated by the Rev Aled Jenkins and assisted by the Rev Geraint Morse and the Rev Richard Davies.

The principal mourners were Clara Mathias (sister), Gerwyn Mathias (nephew), Eifion and Tina Mathias (nephew and wife), Ray Raymond (sister-in-law), Helen and Peter Reynish (niece and husband), John Rowe, Mansel Raymond, Basil Raymond, Wyn Raymond, Gerwyn and Eifion Owen, Andrew and Graham Raymond, Martin Salmon, Mrs Margaret Evans, Mr Hugh Harries (cousins) and Eira (friend).

The bearers were Gerwyn and Eifion Mathias (nephews), Gerwyn and Teifion Owen (cousins). Glyndwr Harries and John Williams (family friends). The organist at the service was Pitra Rowlands

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Paul Jenkins and Sons, Fishguard.

Mr S R Jones

Pembroke

The funeral of Stephen Ralph Jones took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth on April 12.

Mr Jones, of Cook`s Close, Pembroke, died at home at the age of 71 on April 1, 2019.

Stephen worked as an electrician and pipe TV engineer.

He enjoyed fishing, DIY, playing pool, music and his pets.

Left to mourn are his wife Sara; son Andrew; daughters Tracey and Julie; grandchildren Holly and Ella; cousins Kevin Jones and Caroline Maddocks as well as other cousins and family friends.

The funeral service took place on Friday, April 12, at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth.

The Bearers were Andrew, son; Kevin, cousin and Jason, family friend.

The service was led by Mike Ashbridge who also read the eulogy.
