A PARENT from the Cardigan area whose child failed to attend school on a regular basis must pay more than £1,300 in fines and costs.
The parent, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was found guilty in their absence at Aberystwyth Justice Centre in a case brought by council officers.
Magistrates imposed a fine of £660, plus costs of £580 and a victim surcharge of £66.
In a separate case, another parent from the Cardigan area appeared in court to admit failing to ensure their child attended school on a regular basis. The parent was given a 12-month conditional discharge, along with £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
