CARDIGAN Town Council has declared a climate emergency.
It is following in the footsteps of scores of local authorities across the UK which have passed motions calling on leaders to declare a state of emergency over rising carbon emissions and the threat to the planet.
Cllr Clive Davies proposed the motion and it was unanimously back by all other councillors.
“Several towns across Wales have already done this and hopefully we can also look at Ceredigion County Council level at how we can reduce our carbon footprint,” he said.
Cllr Shan Williams, who will become the town’s new mayor next month, said: “We will be asking if there is funding available for a feasibility study for a tidal lagoon in Cardigan where we could generate our own electricity.
“We will also be looking at the feasibility of a local produce supermarket scheme.”
