THE former Lloyds Bank in Newcastle Emlyn could be converted into two flats.
The bank at Cawdor Terrace closed in January and proposals have now been submitted to Carmarthenshire planning officials to turn the building into two self-contained residential flats.
At a meeting of the town council, Newcastle Emlyn mayor Cllr Cefin Evans said: “I don’t think we should be building flats there in the middle of town. It should be a shop.
“Surely there is a commercial need for it? If there is a chance of establishing a community bank, that would be ideal for it. I think we should oppose this.”
Other councillors agreed and their objections will be forward to the county council.
