DRIVING into a fast-food sign could cost a local farmer his job, magistrates have been told.

Neil Shellam, of Bryn Terrace, Rosebush, pleaded guilty to driving while over the legal alcohol limit when he appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates on Tuesday, March 26.

Vaughan Pritchard-Jones, prosecuting, said police received a report stating a man had collided with a sign in a car park after buying food at McDonalds, Haverfordwest, at 1.20am at March 6.

Officers arrived at the scene shortly afterwards and stopped Shellam’s Ford Mondeo on Freemans Way.

Shellam, 47, was found to have 41mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

Katy Hanson, defending, said: “He pleads guilty at the first opportunity and accepts he had two drinks.

“He lives with his wife and works as a farmer, he gets up at 4am and has to travel to Clunderwen.

“It will be difficult when he loses his licence, it seems inevitable he will not be able to continue to do the work that he is doing.”

Magistrates fined Shellam £209 and ordered her to pay £85 court costs and a £30 surcharge.

He was banned from driving for 12 months.
