AN INQUEST is set be opened after the identity of a ‘fantastic’ man who died after seemingly falling from a town centre car park was confirmed today.
The man who died on Friday evening after being found seriously injured on the pavement beneath the Alencon Link car park was today confirmed by Hampshire’s Coroner’s Office as Basingstoke man Paul Henwood.
Police and medical staff were called to the scene at around 6.30pm, but despite their best efforts to save Mr Henwood, he died.
The death is not being treated as suspicious.
An inquest is soon to be opened into his death, the coroner’s office also added.
In the wake of the incident, tributes were left to Mr Henwood on The Gazette’s Facebook page.
Dawn Griffin posted: “He was a fantastic man with a heart of gold and a true inspiration to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Only so much pain one can take. He is now pain free.”
Leah Louise Ayres said: “You will be missed, love you so much R.I.P. Heaven has gained an angel. He was a good man and will be missed.”
Flowers have also been left under the bridge from Alencon Link to the car park, outside Basingstoke railway station, in his memory.
