CARDIGAN Bay Brownies has a new home in the centre of Cardigan.

Pantri Aberteifi opened its doors for the first time this morning (Saturday, March 16) in what was previously part of David Evans jewellers at Pendre House on the high street.

The last three months has all been a bit of a blur for business owner Nerys Evans as she burned the midnight oil to get the new shop ready, while still trading at her regular market stalls throughout the area and delivering on-line orders.

Things have certainly come a long way since Nerys started out baking in her own home and then converted her garage into a commercial kitchen to keep up with demand.

But the real turning point came last November.

"Nerys was stood on her market stall and it was so cold and she was absolutely freezing," said husband Rob.

"We knew Dai was retiring and so I went in and had a quiet chat about taking over the building. Originally we were looking at next door but when we saw this space we could see the potential.

"We talked it over that weekend and decided to go for it and started work converting the shop at the beginning of January."

So why the name 'Pantri Aberteifi'?

"My grandmother used to have a huge pantry and it was always full of goodies," said Nerys.

"We would go over there every night and I used to love it."

Nerys started Cardigan Bay Brownies in 2016 but before that back in 2010 she was making cupcakes which she sold at the 4CG market to help pay for a camera for a course in fine art and photography.

Little did she realise how the business would take off.

"I never thought we would end up here and now having the shop means I don't have to be obsessed with the weather app any more, though we will still be doing various markets," said Nerys.

She will be helped in the shop by niece Imogen Davies, who has been with her from the start, along with Emily Storer, Erin Davies and sister Nia Davies.

"It's very much a family affair and I would just like to thank everyone who has supported us to get this far. It is amazing really," added Nerys.
