AN exhibition entitled ‘Wales and the Sea’ is to be staged at Cardigan Castle

With a coastline measuring almost 600 miles in length, it isn't surprising that Wales has a close relationship with the sea. These waters have shaped not only the coastline of Wales but also the history and imagination of the Welsh people.

Inspired by stories and images from the collections of The National Library of Wales, the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales, Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales and Cadw, this exhibition explores Wales’ relationship with the sea and its impact on the country’s landscape and culture.

Drawing on images, maps, manuscripts and archives from these national collections, the exhibition will look at Wales' maritime history, culture, industry and people, and encourage audiences to consider the living relationship between Wales and the sea,

The exhibition will be supplemented by content created and delivered by Cardigan Castle’s volunteer group which has been busy preparing interpretation for the bicentenary of the Albion’s emigration to New Brunswick in 1819.

“We are delighted to secure this special exhibition at the castle for the months of April and May,” said director of Cardigan Castle Jac Davies.

“It is fitting that during this time we will also be celebrating Cardigan’s own relationship with the sea and the bicentenary of the Albion. I am particularly grateful to Dr Rowan O’Neill who was instrumental in securing the exhibition.”

The exhibition will be on show in Cardigan Castle from April 1 to May 31. The exhibition is included with the castle’s admission ticket which is now valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.
