A CARDIGAN Police Community Support Officer who tried to save the life of toddler Kiara Moore has been nominated for a top community award.

PCSO Caryl Griffiths, a rural crime officer, has been shortlisted for Dyfed-Powys Police’s #WeCare Award along with three other officers from the force.

The award is voted for by members of the public and a force spokesman said: “The nomination demonstrates their commitment to the people they serve.

“This award is about the community having the chance to tell us about an officer that deserves recognition.”

PCSO Griffiths has been nominated for both her bravery and compassion.

One nominator said: “I am the grandmother of Kiara Moore who tragically passed away last March when the car she was in rolled and sank into the River Teifi.

“The wonderful lady jumped into the river to rescue her. We would like to thank her in the only way we know how and nominate her for a bravery award.”

Another said: “My eight-year-old son has autism and had a fear of police. Caryl has taken the time to sit with him and chat to gain his confidence.”

Voting will close at 11pm on Sunday, March 24.

Last year’s #WeCare award winner was fellow Cardigan PCSO Matt Kieboom, for his outstanding work in the local community.
