EMERGENCY services were called to Henllan Bridge on the A484 Newcastle Emlyn to Llangeler road this afternoon, March 4, after a school bus came off the road and hit a wall at Henllan bridge.

Firefighters, police and ambulance crew were called to the crash at 3.50pm.

The firefighters from Newcastle Emlyn and Llandysul used extension ladders to help extract the pupils from the rear of the bus, using a winch to stabilise the coach.

It is understood the bus was carrying pupils from Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn and while shocked, no pupils are believed to have been seriously hurt.

The driver is understood to have been taken to hospital.

A spokesman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: "The bus was carrying secondary school children, who were all evacuated safely from the bus.

"The majority have been picked up by parents and alternative transport home has been arranged for the others."

Posting on Twitter, Newcastle Emlyn Police wrote: “Due to an ongoing incident, the road between Henllan and Bangor Teifi will be closed for some time.”

A spokesman for Ceredigion County Council said: "We have been in close contact with the bus company.

"We have had confirmation that none of the pupils on the bus were injured and that arrangements were made to get the pupils home.

"We are very grateful to local residents who helped the children and the driver after the accident."
