WOMEN in Cardigan will have the opportunity on International Women’s Day (Friday, March 8) to find out how to register a formal complaint about the change in their state pension age if they were born in the 1950s.

More than 5,000 women in Ceredigion have lost up to six years of their pension – approximately £45,000 – due to changes in the law in 1995 and 2011, with very little notice.

Members of Ceredigion WASPI (Women Against State Pension Injustice) will be handing out leaflets and answering questions outside Cardigan Guildhall from 12.30pm-1pm.

“Our leaflets explain how women can register a maladministration complaint about the lack of notice they received about this major change to their financial situation,” said Rachel Nicholas from Cardigan WASPI.

“In the past few months hundreds of Ceredigion women have complained and may eventually receive compensation. We have paid National Insurance contributions throughout our working lives, only to find that the pension we paid for isn’t there.

“This is a good opportunity for women in the Cardigan area to find out about the campaign and what they can do to make their voices heard.”

Elsewhere in the county WASPI members in Lampeter will be holding an information stall in the Sainsbury’s store on Market Street from 10am-4pm.

WASPI members in Aberystwyth will be holding a candle-lit vigil and handing out leaflets outside the library in the Old Town Hall in Aberystwyth from 5.30pm–6.30 pm. The building will be illuminated in purple lighting.
