THE celebrated knitted Aberteifi Cardigan is going back on public display from Monday (February 18) hosted by the town’s new community creative space and cafe at Stiwdio 3 in the High Street.

The giant cardigan – which was created to mark Cardigan’s 900th anniversary in 2010 – is celebrating its own anniversary this year.

It’s been 10 years since the history group Aberteifi 2010 secured a Heritage Lottery grant to fund the creative community project.

On Sunday February 24, cardigan designer Lisa Hellier will be in the gallery from 11am to 4pm holding a ‘hands-on TLC session’ for the cardi –open to everyone and with a special warm welcome for those involved in the original project 10 years ago.

“We’ll be deconstructing the cardigan, taking the opportunity to make some repairs after its national tour and to give it some TLC,” said Lisa.

Aberteifi 2010 is hoping to win funding for a new town project - to create a companion piece to the cardigan.

“If you missed out 10 years ago this is your chance to get involved,” said Lisa. “If you are a knitter, crocheter or stitcher there’ll be something for you, come along on the 24th to have a chat.”

The project will also be about sharing creative ideas, sharing and learning new skills. No previous experience required.

“We are looking to broaden a new project out to involve as many people as possible,” said Lisa.

The Aberteifi Cardigan will be on display in the first floor gallery of Stiwdio 3, opening hours 10am to 4pm. Free entry.
