A CARDIGAN-based organisation which offers support to past and current members of the armed forces is looking to expand its service.

Therapies4services is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company set up last year by Morwenna Pitkin, from Aberporth.

It looks to offer emotional, mental and physical support to servicemen and ex-servicemen, their families and carers.

And with the backing of a £10,000 National Lottery Fund grant, qualified therapist Morwenna is hoping to offer her unique service to more areas.

“As well as the Cardigan area, we are working in Carmarthen one day a week and looking at possibly two,” she said.

“We are also looking to work one day a week in Haverfordwest as we try to cover as much of the south and west of Wales as possible and build our client base.

“After five years of providing therapies to active soldiers, veterans and bereaved military families, I noticed that people were not receiving enough emotional support and that has a rippling effect on the whole family unit.

“Therapies4services provides a non-judgemental, relaxing and caring environment, in a holistic approach to therapy.

Morwenna recently travelled to London to meet with representatives of the Blind Veterans UK charity, which is looking to expand its programme in south Wales.

She has also been working in conjunction with Job Centres to get in touch with ex-military personnel who might need help.

Therapies4services will also be hosting an armed forces day event at Cardigan rugby club on June 29.

“It is all about slowly building up trust with people and giving them back their self-worth,” added Morwenna.

“In the past, once people leave the armed forces there has been little or no support for them. The idea behind this is to bridge the gap between being a soldier and being a civilian and to make that transition as easy as possible.

“We are looking for any volunteers who feel they could help, especially with fund-raising. We are also looking to businesses to perhaps help out with sponsorship. We want to work with the community and involve the community.”
