So when did Elton come to Narberth?

It’s gone down in local folklore – Elton John’s performance at the Queens Hall, Narberth.

But when did this legendary concert take place? And is there anyone who remembers it?

The Queens Hall trustees are working to get a refurbishment grant package together – and Elton’s concert is one of the high-profile events in the hall’s glorious 60 year history.

But even though there are a lot of verbal reminiscences, efforts to find physical evidence have so far drawn a blank.

“It’s very frustrating,” said hall manager Sue Lewis. “We have had several people – including one of our own trustees! – who remember the concert but no-one can find a poster or ticket or even recall the date it was held.”

One Queens Hall fan, Emrys Inker, now living in Glasgow, said: “Yes the venue attracted ‘names’ such as Elton John – I think he played under his real name Reg Dwight.”

And Queens Hall trustee Arthur Bates – who was a steward at the show – said: “I’m pretty sure it was the late 60s maybe very early 70s.”

The Queens Hall have got in touch with the Elton John fan club – but they don’t have a record of the concert on their database.

“If we can find some physical evidence we can share it with the fan club and raise the profile of the Queens Hall,” said Sue.
