A CARDIGAN man assaulted two police officers, damaged a police vehicle and was found in possession of cannabis.

Ashley David Williams, of Rhos y Dre, Cardigan, must pay nearly £600 in costs and compensation as well as being hit with a community order.

Williams pleaded guilty to possessing 23.7 grams of cannabis in the town on August 26 last year when he appeared before magistrates at Aberystwyth Justice Centre.

He also admitted assaulting a constable in the execution of his duty, damaging a police vehicle and failing to surrender to custody having been released on bail.

The 36-year-old denied assaulting another police officer but was found guilty.

Williams was ordered to serve a 12-month community rehabilitation order and as part of that must carry out 130 hours of unpaid work.

He must pay £50 compensation to each police officer, along with £400 in costs and an £85 victim surcharge.
