BRYAN M Jones of Mary Church Court, Haverfordwest passed away on Christmas Day, aged 56 at Withybush Hospital with all his family around him.

Bryan worked up until 21 years ago when he suffered a brain haemorrhage.

He was always happy and cheerful, many will remember his jokes which he may have told you once or twice before.

His partner of 26 years Pam passed away in November 2017 which he never really got over.

He was loved by all his family and friends.

The funeral service took place on January 7 at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and was officiated by the Rev. Huw George.

The bearers were his three brothers, Tony, Peter and Paul, nephew Matthew Morrissey, brother-in-law Gary Morrissey and long-time best friend Martin Ainsworth.

The family left to mourn are his mum Tina who he always called mammy; his daughter Tasha and son-in-law Paul; son Darren; sister Tishy and brother-in-law Gary; brother Tony and sister-in-law Alison; brother Peter and sister-in-law Delphine; brother Paul and sister-in-law Kayleigh; grandsons Harvey and Dexter; aunty Vanda and uncle Billy and beloved nephews, nieces and cousins along with numerous friends.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland & Son of Haverfordwest.

Mr A J B Ratcliffe

MR ALFRED Joseph Braginton Ratcliffe, known as Bill, died on December 6, 2018 at home at Cold Blow, Narberth

Bill was a native of Burnley, Lancashire and was born on March 14, 1923.

After 10 years as an agricultural adviser in North Staffordshire he moved to Carmarthen in 1956.

After holding a number of advisory posts he became Head of ADAS in Wales until his retirement in 1983.

He pioneered the adoption of farm business management and the use of local farmer discussion groups in transferring the benefits of research and development to local farm businesses.

Bill was awarded the OBE for services to the agricultural industry in Wales in 1989 and also was bestowed with the rare honour of directly becoming a Fellow of Royal Agricultural Societies in 2012.

He became a Director of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society in 1980 and subsequently between 2003 and 2013 Chairman of RWAS Enterprises Ltd as well.

In 2005 he was awarded the Society’s Silver Award and Honorary Vice Presidency.

He was instrumental in building the first food hall and getting the major supermarkets to exhibit at the show, starting with Marks & Spencer.

Also in 2005 Bill was appointed a Fellow of Harper Adams University.

He attended the then agricultural college in 1942/43 and has had close ties with it ever since and for many years was chairman of Harper Cymru.

Apart from his dedication to the Royal Welsh, Bill was also a keen gardener and reader of biographies.

The family left to mourn are his sons Anthony and wife Jean, Alistair and partner Roberta; grand-children, Sarah and husband Richard, Andrea, Emma and partner David, Jonathon and partner Alison, and Christopher; great grand-children, Sean, Katie, William, Alfie, Freddie and Lily.

The bearers at the funeral were Anthony Ratcliffe, Alistair Ratcliffe, Jon Ratcliffe, Chris Ratcliffe, Sean Ratcliffe and Richard Webb.

The funeral took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth on the December 20, 2018 at 1.45pm.

The officiant was the Reverend Martin Cox.

The service was followed by refreshments at Plas Hyfryd in Narberth.

There were family flowers only, with donations in lieu for RNLI, Pembroke Ladies Lifeboat Guild.

Cresselly

A LARGE gathering of family and friends attended the funeral service of Mrs Doris Margaret James at Pisgah Baptist Chapel, Cresswell Quay, on December 14.

Aged 95 years and formerly of Freestone Cross, Cresselly, Doris passed away at Woodland Lodge, Gumfreston on December 4. Well-known and respected in the local community, she will be sadly missed. A welcome always awaited at Freestone Cross where Doris spent her whole life and where visitors spent many happy hours sharing news and stories from years gone by.

After leaving Greenhill Grammar School, Tenby and during World War 2 she became a member of the Land Army, before she later met and married Mr. Gwyn James who sadly passed away in 1979.

A job then followed at The Electricity Board offices in Tenby, before their only daughter, Avril was born. Doris continued to work and using her knowledge gained in the Land Army helping out on local farms, potato picking and feathering.

She later became employed in the local hotels in the Tenby and Saundersfoot area during the summer season, before moving on to become a delivery driver for the Brock family at Milton Bakery, where she spent many happy years. Prior to retirement, Doris was a member of the retail team at T. P. Hughes, forging friendships which were to last a lifetime.

Outside of her working life, Pisgah Chapel was her focus where she was a member of the Chapel, Sunday School and Sisterhood and a life Deacon after loyally serving as Church Secretary for nearly 25 years. A member of the Royal British Legion and a local poppy seller, Doris attended the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall in London on several occasions and was also a member of the Carew Historical Society. Her family remained important to her and the many friends at Pisgah and the surrounding community who paid regular visits.

Family who attended the funeral were Avril (daughter) Gwyn (nephew) Julie and Andy, Nigel and Claire, Jayne (great nieces and nephews), Hayley and James (great-great niece and husband), Betty (sister-in-law), Kath & Peter, David & Margaret, John & Hazel, Richard (nieces and nephews) together with family and friends too numerous to mention. The bearers were David Hughes (nephew), Christopher Buckle (great-nephew), Martyn Cole (friend), Keith Hughes (friend).

Rev David Gooding, minister of Pisgah conducted the funeral, with Revd. Norman Gilbert and Revd. Lorette Hinson also taking part. The organist was Mrs. Maureen Griffiths a close friend and neighbour. The service concluded in the chapel cemetery. There were family flowers only with donations in lieu, if so desired, for Pisgah Chapel which may be sent c/o E.C. Milford Haven

MRS Jean Squelch, of 21 Caldey Way, Milford Haven passed away on January 1, 2019, aged 67. Jean was a native of Milford Haven and worked at Boots the Chemist before becoming a stay at home mum and housewife.

Her main interests were spending time with family especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed walking.

Principal mourners were, husband Paul Squelch; daughter and son-in-law Julie and Huw Scriven; daughter and son-in-law Hayley and Allen Price; grandchildren Ellie, Jack, Evan and Cian; sister Yvonne; brother and sister-in-law Peter and Elaine along with numerous nieces and nephews

The funeral service was held at the Chapel of Rest in Milford Haven on Monday 7th January and burial followed at Thornton Cemetery and was officiated by John Cecil.

The bearers were, Huw Scriven, Allen Price, Jack Scriven and Evan Price.
