CONFUSION surrounds who is responsible for a strip of land that keeps flooding near the playground at Felinban in Cardigan and which is so deep at times “it could claim a child’s life”.
Cllr Sian Maehrlein had raised the issue at a meeting of the town council in December and said she was particularly concerned during periods of heavy rain.
“They have done work there and the lane is clear but rainwater collects and it’s over knee high in front of where the park is,” she said.
“It’s about two feet deep and it could claim a child’s life. If it were a pond it would be fenced off and it needs to be sorted out.”
The council has since been in contact with both Tai Ceredigion and Ceredigion County Council – and both say it is not their responsibility.
“It is not clear who owns the land,” said Mayor Cllr John Adams-Lewis at January’s meeting of the town council.
“It’s complicated. I have spoken to solicitors at Ceredigion County Council and they are looking into who owns it.”
