THE Mart public toilets at Newcastle Emlyn are to stay open during the winter months thanks to support from local organisations and groups around the town.

The toilets, which are run by Carmarthenshire County Council, would have usually closed for the winter on November 4.

But now funding has been provided that will see the toilets stay open.

“Keeping just one toilet open during the quiet winter period will be of great benefit to the town,” said Newcastle Emlyn Mayor, Cllr Cefin Evans.

“A lot of people have pulled together when faced with the challenge of the toilets closing over the winter months. It is such an important facility to so many people.

“We have had financial support from the Mart, the town Traders’ Association, Llandyfriog Community Council and Emlyn Circle, while Cardigan Bay Trading will be supplying the toiletries.

“It is another great example of a community pulling together. If we want to attract people to the town and help local residents as well, we need to be able to provide public toilets.”
