ROLL back the years and step back in time at the annual Victorian Evening in Newcastle Emlyn this evening.

Chestnuts will be roasting on stalls in the street, mulled wine will be sipped in all the shops and there will be plenty of mince pies at the event tonight (Wednesday, December 5) from around 4pm.

Shop owners will stay open late and embrace the Victorian theme by donning their best costumes and decorating their premises with the countdown to Christmas very much started.

Throughout the night there will be horse and cart rides up and down the main street (weather permitting), prizes on offer for the best dressed Victorian outfit and best dressed shop window, Santa’s grotto, Trinity Church Christmas tree event and street stalls.

“The event has been going for around 25 years and is welcomed by both the traders and residents. There is a great feeling around the town on the night,” said organiser Odette Little, from Tivy Hall.

And this year, S4C will be broadcasting live from Newcastle Emlyn.

The Christmas tree festival at Trinity Church will open at 5.30pm and will then be open every Friday and Saturday until Christmas.
