A CARDIGAN business has handed over £2,000 to the ‘Riley’s Wish to Walk’ campaign.

Seyran’s Pizzas at St Mary’s Street raised the staggering amount by donating all the money it made on August Bank Holiday Monday – plus the staff donated their wages for the day.

Five-year-old Riley, from Pontycleifion, Cardigan, suffers from cerebral palsy after been born 16 weeks premature in April 2013 and earlier this year underwent a gruelling specialist operation in Bristol to help him walk unaided.

But parents Jenny Griffiths and Alistair Barros Pearera have to raise £40,000 for the surgery and subsequent rehabilitation physiotherapy as the operation to help their son is not currently available on the NHS.

Seyran’s owner Ozi Zeven said he was staggered at the response of his customers to the fund-raising effort.

“I was over the moon – it is amazing how the town supports each other just like that,” he said.

“We were so busy we had to turn off the phone. Everyone got behind us and we have never had a day like that.”

And to make it even more special, Riley himself went to the shop and helped to make a pizza.

“Riley had a big smile on his face and maybe one day he will walk in and then walk out with a pizza,” said Ozi.

“That would be a dream come true and would make it all worthwhile. I just want to thank everyone – both customers and staff - for their support and making it such a special day.”

The town has rallied round the family, with Derek Burton staging a 10-day charity coal walk, the Mason’s Arms at Cilgerran hosting a series of events that has so far pulled in more than £4,300 and Cardigan Charity Fundraising Appeal staged a music night.
