WRITTEN by one of Britain’s best-loved playwrights Alan Bennett (The History Boys, The Lady in the Van), the next broadcast event from National Theatre Live will be The Madness of George III, screening at Cardigan’s Theatr Mwldan on Thursday, November 22 (7pm).

The play stars a fantastic cast including Olivier Award-winners Mark Gatiss (Sherlock, Wolf Hall, NT Live Coriolanus) in the title role, and Adrian Scarborough (Gavin and Stacey, Upstairs Downstairs, After the Dance).

It’s 1786 and King George III is the most powerful man in the world. But his behaviour is becoming increasingly erratic as he succumbs to fits of lunacy.

With the King’s mind unravelling at a dramatic pace, ambitious politicians and the scheming Prince of Wales threaten to undermine the power of the Crown, and expose the fine line between a King and a man.

Pop up restaurant The People Tree will be serving food before The Madness of George III (seating at 5.45pm). Contact The People Tree directly on 07708 003 014 to reserve your table and advise your menu choices (meat/vegetarian).

Tickets for National Theatre Live screenings are priced at £12.50 full price (£11.50 concessions) and are available now from Theatr Mwldan’s Box Office on 01239 621200, on-line at www.mwldan.co.uk or via our MWLDAN app.

“The scenes between Scarborough and Gatiss are electric,” writes The Guardian, while The Times says: “Mark Gatiss is phenomenally good and our renewed interest in leaders and mental illness makes the play feel bang up-to-date.”

“Gatiss’ performance is very physical. He makes the most of his height, stalking the stage, splay-toed, as he conveys the king’s rapid decline,” says The Stage.
