LLECHRYD Bridge looks set to be closed for at least another couple of weeks following the recent flooding along the Teifi valley.

Work has been carried out to remove the debris that had lodged in the bridge arches and officials from both Natural Resources Wales and Ceredigion County Council have been carrying out checks.

It appears there has been scouring of the bridge foundations and repair work will need to be carried out and the bridge will therefore remain closed.

Ceredigion County Council is also bringing in divers to take a closer look at the bridge, which is a scheduled monument and this will have to be taken into consideration in any repairs.

A council spokesperson said: "Following removal of the trees and debris, scour pools were identified around the base of the two upstream middle spans and voids noted in the masonry on the upstream elevation.

"Further investigation is required by specialist divers before a decision can be made whether the bridge is safe enough to remove the current closure."
