STORM Callum continued to batter the Cardigan area today (Saturday, October 13), with heavy rain and strong winds causing flooding, fallen trees and localised power cuts caused by debris hitting overhead lines.

The Met office amber alert is still in force, with substantial rainfall forecast and winds gusting to 60-65 mph for Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire.

There has been extensive flooding at Talsarn, south Ceredigion.

Police are advising motorists to take extra care, with surface flooding and trees and debris blocking roads.

Ceredigion Roads Policing Unit reported areas of flooding at Dolhaidd Isaf Pentrecagal, near Henllan Bridge, drains full to capacity at Llangeler, flooding by Saron playing fields and is urging drivers to drive appropriate to the conditions.

The lower Teifi area remains on flood alert but appears to have so far escaped the worst, with the Sommerfield car park at Quay Street having been under water at high tide and water levels at Llechryd are high.

A spokesman for Ceredigion County Council said: "There has been continuous overnight rainfall and river levels have risen significantly, affecting many roads. There are treacherous driving conditions due to standing water.

"The council is asking the public to take extreme care. The council is aware that the following roads are closed due to flood water and others may be impassable - A44 Lovesgrove to Llanbadarn, B4343 Cellan, B4437 Talsarn, B4476 Abercerdin."

Trees are down in Cwmdegwel, St Dogmaels. A specialist team has been sent to clear the road by Pembrokeshire County Council.

The Welsh Wildlife centre at Cilgerran is closed due to the weather conditions.
