OVER the past 16 years Bernard ‘Bunny’ Davies of Cardigan has raised a substantial amount of money for various local charities and worthy causes by running full and half marathons.

And the retired fireman at the former RAE establishment in Aberporth, who will be 78 in December, successfully completed his umpteenth challenge recently when completing the Cardiff half marathon.

Bunny, who lives with wife Julia in North Road, ran in the stamina-sapping 13 miles 192 ½ yards event which attracted 25,000 runners, in memory of his sister-in-law Iona Williams and in aid of the Cardigan Cancer Care charity.

The total amount raised through sponsorships has not been finalised but is in the region of £1,000.

Most runners of Bunny’s age who completed the race ran for a mile then walked a mile but the Cardigan man, a former footballer who was a talented striker with St Dogmaels and Carmarthen Town, ran all the way without any stops whatsoever in two hours and 50 minutes.

His main sponsor was his son Gethin who runs Grow It Mow It on the Pentood Industrial estate and Bunny said he also wished to thank everyone who supported him.

Asked how long he hoped to continue marathon running Bunny said: “What will be will be but I’d like to keep running into my 80’s.”
