A shepherd’s pie night at Aberaeron Rugby Club raised £1,322 for farming charity RABI.

Male volunteers from RABI’s Ceredigion committee cooked and served the classic dish at the rugby club using Welsh lamb donated by Theresa and Gary Glover of Plwmp.

The event also helped promote Welsh lamb during Love Lamb Week, an industry-wide initiative focused on promoting lamb sales in the UK.

The idea of asking the men to take charge of an entire fundraising event came from Chris Hunt, who sadly passed away in November 2016.

Her husband Stephen, honorary president of RABI’s Ceredigion committee, said: “Chris would have loved this event. We had one of the best evenings ever and the Carmarthen Ukuleles group was amazing.”

The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) gives out around £2m each year to farming people in financial need in Wales and England.

Euros Davies, Ceredigion committee chair, added: “I would like to thank everyone who attended or contributed towards the success of this night. Welsh Lamb is a tasty and nutritious product and we’re proud to have done our bit to try and promote it during Love Lamb Week.”
