FOOTBALL ROUND-UP

Back in action after a blank Saturday caused by referees refusing to officiate at their games, Costcutter League Division One leaders St Dogmaels sprang a 3-0 win over Newcastle Emlyn at fortress School Field, giving a clear indication that it is going to take something special to lower the colours of the Teifi Estuary villagers.

It was business as usual with Saints producing another splendid all-round team performance in subduing the visitors who were distinctly second best on the day.

Emlyn lifted the J Emrys Morgan Cup last term but on the evidence of this performance the Reds could struggle to figure on the roll of honour at the business end of the campaign.

Outfield player Robbie Jenkins started the game in goal and manager Owain Thomas took over between the sticks for the second period dominated by the homesters.

Front-runner Peter Almond, who was on top of his game, finished clinically to put Saints in front and that's how it remained until the second half.

Winger Billy Myers finished off a good move to double the lead and Rhys Jones fired past Thomas from 20 yards to wrap up the point.

Referee Wyn Roberts allowed the game to flow and brought glowing praise from many of the School Field faithful.

Jason Williams and Co make the long trek to Powys this weekend to take on Newtown Wanderers in round one of the Emrys Morgan.

After home wins over Llanboidy and Newcastle Emlyn completing a hat-trick was plain sailing for Llandysul who came out on top 3-0 at Felinfach.

With new striker Ashley Summers, who recently joined from Emlyn, making quite an impact up front with intelligent running off the ball the visitors controlled the contest from the word go and were three goals in front after 30 minutes before appearing to ease off.

Jason Clayton fired the Swallows ahead, attacking midfielder Lewis Jones blasted a 30-yarder into the top corner of the net to double the advantage and Chris Harries struck to put his side in the comfort zone.

Former winners Llandysul hit the J Emrys Morgan Cup trail on Saturday when Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth League side Machynlleth Reserves visit the Teifi Valley village.

Aberaeron Reserves eased their near the foot of the table with a second win from five starts after springing a 3-2 win over visiting bottom of the pile Bargod Rangers at Square Field.

For Aeron, who played some neat one-touch football, the marksmen were Oliver Edwards and Jack Chetwynd.

Crannog roared into the new season with maximum points from three outings, but in their latest two games the coastal villagers have been beaten by reigning champions Lampeter Town and on Saturday were held to a 2-2 draw by Ffostrasol at Troedyrhiw Park.
