ONE of West Wales’ most established artists is the first person to receive a Gold Award in the Carmarthenshire Tourism Association’s new ‘Made in Carmarthenshire’ category.

At a packed awards ceremony in Llanelli on June 6, Helen Elliott from Newcastle Emlyn was thrilled to learn that she had come top of the class in the new category.

“I was lost for words when the Master of Ceremonies Aled Rhys Jones announced that I’d got the Gold”, said Helen.

“I was absolutely delighted but it really was a shock. I’m so pleased that these awards now showcase the work of Carmarthenshire’s many artists and crafters.

“I hope my award will help to put Newcastle Emlyn on the map and encourage more visitors to the area.”

The other winners in this category were Oriel King Street Gallery (Silver), Gwili Pottery (Silver) and Ferric Fusion (Bronze).

Before the awards were announced the guests were entertained by the Llanelli Male Voice Choir.
