WHAT does the future hold for the current Cardigan Hospital site?

A new £25m Integrated Care Centre is currently being built by Hywel Dda health authority at Bathhouse Road and is scheduled to open at the end of 2019.

But what will happen to the existing hospital site was the question raised in a letter addressed to the town council at its June meeting.

Former councillor Dai Brabrook said: “Following on from J.B.Evans’ remarks in the Tivyside, can you confirm if the town council has any plans or suggestions regarding this site?

“I believe it would make an ideal car park that would serve Cardigan well on a day-to-day basis but would be an asset to Cardigan when events such as Barley Saturday or the annual fair day are held.

“Its close proximity to the town and to the by-pass make it the ideal location.

“Also, can we have confirmation that the site is actually owned by the health board as it was originally donated to the people of the parish of St Mary’s for the provision of a priory hospital to serve the residents of the parish of St Mary’s and adjoining parishes?”

Various suggestions have already been put forward in letters to the Tivyside regarding the hospital site’s future, including homes for the elderly.

Mr Brabrook’s letter was noted by the council, which said it would welcome further suggestions and opinions.
