AN amateur drama group celebrating its 18th anniversary has become the latest winner of the Pride in Pembrokeshire Awards.

The Cilgerran Players won the award for the ‘self-sustaining nature of the group; the intergenerational nature of their activities; their strong commitment to volunteering and development and support offered to young people.’

Established in 2000, the majority of the Cilgerran Players live in the village and vary in age from eight to 80.

They put on two shows a year and are self-funded from the income generated through ticket sales.

“We’re delighted to win this award,” said secretary of the Players, Janet Garner.

“Our shows are always well-attended with some travelling many miles to come and watch.

“We are most proud of the difference we make to the lives of our junior members, whose participation in drama helps to raise confidence levels, enhance reading and performance skills and teaches the value of collaborative working.”

The group also contributes to the costs of running the village hall, which it uses for all rehearsals and performances.

Launched in 2017, the Pride in Pembrokeshire Awards are a partnership between the Pembrokeshire Public Services Board (PSB) and the Western Telegraph – with each winning entry awarded £200.
