A DISABLED rider’s electric mountain bike which had been stolen in Cardigan has been found.

The distinctive yellow and blue Giant Dirt-E, worth around £2,500, was taken from owner Tom Wells from the back of his New Image Bicycles shop business at Pendre on Monday, March 26.

But after a big appeal though social media spearheaded by his daughter Lily and the Tivyside, Tom, who is disabled after losing a leg after being hit by a car while riding a bike, has been reunited with his bike.

“I got a phone call from the police on Tuesday night (April 3) to say they had got it. It had been handed in by a member of the public, found near Chancery Lane, so it didn't get very far,” said Tom, who has been in business in Cardigan for 20 years.

“The young man who found it saw it outside Mike's Shop while walking his dog at about 10pm.”

And thankfully, the bike, which Tom refers to as “my wheelchair” and has undergone a number of modifications to make it easier for him to ride with his artificial leg, was still in good condition.

“By the look of it I think it has probably been kept indoors,” he added.

“Perhaps all the publicity and the distinctive nature of the bike made the thief think again and they decided to dump it. I'm just really, really pleased and relieved to get it back in one piece.

“I cannot thank people enough for all their support in finding it.”
