A CHARITY fund-raising concert is being staged to raise money for a Cardigan youngster who has been diagnosed with cancer.

The event is being organised by Katina Andreou and friends for 17-year-old Olly Giles, who is battling Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Katina, from Cilgerran, said: “I read about Olly’s fight and because I am in a musical ensemble, decided to put on a concert to raise funds to help out.

“Cwm Cerwyn is made up of myself, Angharad Howells, Muriel Carpenter, Katy Richards and Seimon Morris and they have all agreed to take part.

“We have been having a few rehearsals and we've sorted a fun programme, with lots of new pieces. It’s not typical classical musician stuff at all and it should be great fun.”

The concert will be held at the Angel Hotel, St Mary Street, Cardigan on Sunday, April 15, at 2.30pm and admission is £5 on the door.

Following the concert, there will also be a raffle and auction of items donated by local individuals and businesses.

“I have been overwhelmed by the response to my appeal for help and support,“ added Katina.

“We have been donated so many gifts. I have just been to collect a 2005 All Stars Cup golf bag that was signed by the teams that took part in the event.

“So many people have been so very kind and have been happy to donate prizes and I think that is so typical of the generous people in the Cardigan area. They all want to try to help out a local boy and that’s what Cardigan does so often.”
