AIR cadets from 1429 (Cardigan and Aberporth) Squadron recently spent their Sunday working at a nature reserve to improve it for their community.
The cadets donned their work gloves and descended on woodland at Clynfyw Farm, Abercych, to create a new footpath. The cadets cut, sawed, raked and trampled the new path so that visitors to the farm can enjoy peaceful walks through the area.
The new footpath will take visitors down through previously-impassable woodland to glades that in spring are filled with bluebells.
To show their gratitude, Clynfyw laid on a barbeque for the cadets and donated funds to the squadron. They have also offered the use of the area for the squadron’s future training in activities such as camping and fieldcraft.
Flight Lieutenant Mark Davies, commanding officer of the squadron, said: “Young people often get a raw deal when it comes to publicity these days, with the majority of that publicity focusing on the negative things done by a minority of young people.
“I’m incredibly proud of the cadets and their willingness to give up their free time to get out and help the community.”
