A CEREDIGION man who committed suicide on the day he was due to appear in court to answer historical sexual abuse charges "saw no other way out", an inquest has heard.

Victor James Farley was found hanging from a tree near his home in Ciliau Aeron, Lampeter, on November 9, 2015.

Originally from Kent, Farley had been charged with 19 offences of historical sexual abuse by police in the Home Counties.

Mr Farley’s daughter, Ellie and her boyfriend Jamie Thomas lived with him.

The inquest at Aberystwyth heard a police statement which described how on the day of Farley's death Mr Thomas had thought it strange when he realised he had not heard his girlfriend's father getting up for work.

Mr Thomas then set out to search for him.

He found a note on Farley's bed which included a list of "housekeeping" and a message to say he was in the woods.

Mr Thomas found Farley hanging from a tree in woodland 900 yards from his home.

A post mortem revealed that the hanging had caused partial decapitation.

A statement submitted to the hearing by Farley's daughter Ellie said: “Dad was a bubbly character and joked a lot which is what I most liked him.

“My dad was a very proud man and just wanted to go about his daily routine.

"I understand why he committed suicide. When his name came out in the press about his court case, people would have judged him. He saw no other way out.”

Coroner Peter Brunton recorded a verdict of death by suicide.
