AS part of a county wide project called “A Pint of History”, Llandysul & District Local History Society are researching pubs in the Llandysul area during 2015.

The Society will be holding their next event at the Cilgwyn Arms, Llandysul on Monday July 6, from 6-9pm where they will have a small exhibition of newspaper clippings, trade directory entries, census information and photos which they already hold about the Cilgywn Arms, the Blue Bell, the Farmers and the Pelican.

Chairman Jane Kerr said she was looking forward to a “splendid” evening much like the welcome that the Cilgwyn Arms gave the Tregroes Sunday School after they had attended the Calan Hen festival in January 1902 when they had a “splendid repast of tea”.

Lesley Parker, one of the members who has been conducting research is very interested in the Benefit or Friendly Societies which were based in many of the pubs in and around Llandysul.

“Before the welfare state these societies were formed by their members to provide aid in times of difficulty as well as a chance to meet up with friends and socialise," said the researcher. "We have a photograph which shows that the Cilgwyn Arms was the home of the RAOB - Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes and that is as much as we know. We would love to know more.”

If you have any information about the RAOB - Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes at the Cilgwyn Arms, Llandysul or indeed any of the pubs in Llandysul or the surrounding area, go along to the open evening or contact Llandysul & District Local History Society on 07989 127396 or email hanesllandysul@gmail.com.
