THE Gershwins’ modern American masterpiece Porgy and Bess has its first Met performances in almost 30 years and will be broadcast live at Cardigan’s Theatr Mwldan on Saturday, February 1 (5.55pm).

Starring bass-baritone Eric Owens and soprano Angel Blue in the title roles, this new co-production with English National Opera and Dutch National Opera was hailed as a triumph at its premiere in London earlier this year.

Featuring the much-loved arias “Summertime” and “I Got Plenty o’ Nuttin”, director James Robinson’s stylish production transports audiences to Catfish Row, a setting vibrant with the music, dancing, emotion, and heartbreak of its inhabitants.

The final stage work of George Gershwin, Porgy and Bess is largely regarded as one of the greatest American operas of the 20th century.

“The Met’s uniformly well-cast new production of the famed American opera paints a vivid portrait of a complex place,” writes The Wall Street Journal

“The show proved itself a triumph thanks to that very strong cast and a solid production,” adds Opera Wire.

Tickets are priced at £16 (£15 for concessions) and are available now from Theatr Mwldan’s box office on 01239 621 200, on-line at mwldan.co.uk or via our Mwldan app.
