This year's Open Day at the New Quay RNLI boathouse will be held on Sunday, August 16, and locals and visitors alike are invited to join the fun.

The boathouse has been a focal point in the town since 1864, when its first lifeboat, the Forester, later renamed the Nelson, went on service.

The station, thanks to its strategic position in Cardigan Bay, deals with numerous call outs throughout the year.

There will be the opportunity to look around the station and take in its atmosphere. Activities begin at 11am and include a barbecue, car wash and teas, coffees and light refreshments.

The all weather Mersey Class lifeboat, the Frank and Lena Clifford of Stourbridge, and the inshore inflatable will also be on display.

Lifeboat Operations Manager, Roger Couch, said: "The day will be an opportunity to talk to members of our dedicated volunteer crews, view our static displays, enjoy the family entertainment and support the RNLI which receives no government funding for its important role in saving lives at sea and off our beaches."
