Cardigan Town 0 Maesglas 1
One down two to go - that is the scenario for Maesglas after the Blues dug deep and ground out a 1-0 win against fellow townies Cardigan in front of a sizeable midweek crowd at King George V Playing Field last night.
The win put Darren Williams and Co within three points of St Dogmaels at the top of the Costcutter League. Success at the expense of Crannog at Maes Radley on Tuesday would turn up the heat even further, with Saints facing a must win situation in their final outing against Crannog at the School Field on April 30 to stay in contention.
A large contingent from across the Teifi found themselves in the unheard of situation of rooting for arch-rivals Town, and Alun Williams and his men very nearly did them a favour. The Magpies could consider themselves rather unfortunate not to pick up at least a point.

Played on a bumpy strip the game never rose to any heights with both sides hoisting long high balls, but there was total commitment as the rivals went at it hammer and tongs.
The midfield exchanges were fairly even with Dean Winney and Llifon Howell prominent for Maesglas while Ben Davies got through a tremendous amount of work for Town.
Veteran Reuben Wells was a steadying influence at the back for the Blues while in the Town defence Steve Harper was a tower of strength and found time to join in attacks. Also impressive for the Magpies was Chris Truslove who caused the visitors trouble on the left.
The first clear-cut opportunity fell to Cardigan after29 minutes when good work by Ben Davies on the left gave Gary Lawrence a free header but he could not find the target.
Three minutes later Harper surged forward but headed over the crossbar and the same player headed wide when moving up for a set piece.
The all-important goal came after38 minutes when Dean Winney won the ball on the halfway line before sending a superb deck level pass to Chris Hope' Jones on the left, and the vastly experienced front-runner hit a great shot low into the net giving goalkeeper Steve Smith no chance.
Shortly afterwards Maesglas looked to have doubled the advantage when striker Dominic Williams headed home, but he was penalised for a push on Smith.
Town exerted pressure during the second period and the visitors were forced to defend for lengthy periods.
The best chance of the half fell to Harper who was through on goal but fired wide.
