Cardigan schoolboy Jamie Lewis covered himself in glory at the weekend by overcoming the challenge of the leading young Welsh darts players to reach the finals of the British Teenage Championships.

The 16-year-old is playing the best darts of his young life and does not even attain senior status for another two years.

Up against the cream of Welsh darters at Tonyrefail in the Rhondda Valley on Saturday the Cardigan teenager was in irrepressible form.

In the final he brushed aside reigning British champion Mathew Hannaford of Glamorgan with superb throwing. In whitewashing the favourite by three sets to nil he was on for an amazing 9-darter in the final leg before going out in 12 darts.

The following day the Cardigan ace was again in great form in the Nathan Stewart Memorial Cup in Newport Gwent, a recognised top event.

Jamie gained senior Welsh ranking points by reaching the quarter-final stage where he lost narrowly to Welsh senior international star Alan Walker of Gwent, but the Cardigan player had two darts to put out his more illustrious opponent.

He takes his place in the British finals at Kettering at the end of next month.
