Derby delight for Cardis

Character was what it was about at King George V Playing Field, and the young Cardis had it in abundance as they dug deep to bank maximum points against their arch-rivals.

There was a time not so long ago when the homesters would have succumbed to late pressure, but they are made of sterner stuff these days as they showed by keeping things tight and denying their opponents possession.

Every member of the pack gave everything, but special mention should be made of No. 8 and skipper Colin Davies. He was immense and received great support from flankers Dylan Richards and Dylan Rambo' Davies.

Lock Robert Connolly's throwing in at the lineout faultless, while Dylan Davies won opposition ball on a number of occasions.

Outside half Iestyn Crompton, who arrived from Emlyn a few weeks ago, kicked astutely - his trusty left peg sent the Red and Whites back-pedalling time and again.

Also on top form was Aled Jones, who started at centre before switching to scrum half after the departure of Arwyn Wilson with a shoulder injury.

The visitors played their part in an exciting tussle; no-one doing better for them than flanker and skipper Gethin Phillips who put his body on the line and tackled superbly.

Outside half Huw Evans nudged Emlyn ahead with a penalty and skipper Davies replied with a spot on kick for Cardigan.

Aled Jones regained the home advantage with a try, converted by Davies, and although lock Gethin Greaves got a try for the visitors the conversion by Evans failed and the Cardis held out for a memorable victory.
