FOOTBALL ROUND-UP
As Costcutter League Division One unbeaten leaders St Dogmaels were forced to kick their heels through sensational action by referees who
refused to officiate at matches involving the north Pembrokeshire villagers, the other two unbeaten clubs Newcastle Emlyn and Crannog came unstuck.
Newcastle Emlyn went down 2-1 at Llandysul while Crannog lost 1-0 against reigning champions Lampeter Town at North Road.
After defeat at Llandysul Park another tough test awaits Emlyn this Saturday when they visit School Field to take on the leaders. The game will
go ahead provided local referees accept an apology from Saints concerning an alleged posting on Facebook and continue to officiate at their games.
At Llandysul the home side just about deserved maximum points. They were put under pressure for a 20 minutes period during the second period but
on the evidence of the 90 minutes were the better side on the day.
Striker Gareth Winston netted from close range to give Llandysul an interval lead, and although the visitors drew level attacking midfielder
Lewis Jones grabbed the winner with a deflected effort in injury time.
New manager and former long-serving Lampeter defender Terry Witts was full of praise for his players after the champs battled for the full 90
minutes to bank maximum points at the expense of the previously unbeaten coastal villagers.
"The lads gave me everything in a great team effort with usual central midfielder Marc Evans stepping in at the heart of the defence and doing a
first-rate job," he said.
Town took the lead in the opening five minutes when Jason Jones put Gethin Hunter through on goal and he finished clinically.
It was nip and tuck for the remainder of the game with Crannog mounting waves of attacks in the final ten minutes when home goalkeeper Dylan Evans
pulled off a string of saves including a stunning stop to deny George Colven.
Bargod Rangers opened their account at the fifth attempt when springing a 4-2 win over a youthful Ffostrasol at Parc Puw.
For Rangers, who led 2-0 after the opening 45 minutes, ex-Newcastle Emlyn striker Jake Kelly, who was the league top goal-getter last term, hit
a hat-trick and the other goal was netted by Josh Grota.
Llanboidy picked up maximum points for the second time when emerging 2-0 winners against Cardigan Town at King George V Playing Field.
